I’m now sitting in an apartment in New York getting the final parts ready for my booth at Art Expo 2011. I have painted five new works for this show and of course are bringing older works. This work Nude with gold 01 is of course the first in the new series. It is Acrylic on canvas and took about a month to paint due to the labour intensive layering system I used. Click the image to see it in full. I will post the rest over the next few days in the run up to the show. If you want to come to Art expo it begins on the 25th until the 27th of March. http://artexponewyork.com for more.

Late 2010 I bit the bullet after a few years of doing nothing and signed up for New York Art Expo 2011. So now I’m battling away in my studio to get a bunch of stuff complete for the show. I will be there exhibiting from March 25th till the 27th in a 5‘x10’ booth in the Solo section. I of course invite everybody to come and see the show and enjoy themselves.

Here is the addition to another of the travel paintings I began so very long ago in LA. It seems like so very long ago. I also feel I have not been producing anything because I haven’t posted anything to the site of late. Too much work and loads of travel have put the stops on my production of late. Still I’m producing more and more paintings and it’s all just a case of getting them looking the way I want them to be before just popping them out. Check the link for the painting.

So as I mentioned in my last post the end of last year was mostly working on the launch of Hibiki 12 Years Blended Whisky. I got a bit of a rare opportunity to do something different for a change when I was tasked to design a gift pack. The gift pack was to promote of course the consumption of Hibiki 12 years and Perrier. The original task was to design a gift pack that could be mailed which I immediately failed in doing because I designed this instead that was based on a traditional Japanese hamper called a Furoshiki. Which was impossible to send through Japan post so I made another that I will post later. Still the client was so into this design that they extended the job for me and went through with this design. After completing the project I have a new found respect for package designers and I have to say they have a great job although it can be slightly frustrating when things don’t go as planned. When it WON’T DO WHAT IT’S TOLD WHY WON’T YOU BEND THAT WAY... you get my point. :) Still I’m very happy with the final results and I look forward to doing more.
Follow this link to the work.

WHY I WAS BUSY AT THE END OF 2009

So if anybody checked my site over the last few months they might not have seen much in the way of anything happening. The main reason for this has been my work on Suntory’s Hibiki 12 Years Blended Whisky project. It’s been an eye opening experience for me to work on such a project with such a great client. Their eye for detail is amazing and I’m truly grateful for all they have taught me when it comes to understanding product shots. These three shots are the first part to the new brand campaign that starts here in Japan and will then will go world wide. The Idea behind the campaign is that Hibiki 12 is the Dramatic Blend due to the use of the malts that make it up. Anyway I will also follow up with some packaging design later this month when I get it photographed that I’m also rather happy with. Apart from that I have to say I was too busy 2009 to really produce a lot of painting and it was my most disappointing year to date art wise. My studio is in a right old state but after a long time with a broken air-conditioner and other such mishaps the place is slowly getting it’s self together again so I can produce some new work. To see the work follow this link.
